How the Sheffield Wednesday quiz is checked
Every question above was written by hand and verified before it went live.
Every Sheffield Wednesday question here was checked twice before publication — once against the claim the question makes, and once against the wrong answers offered beside it. A question whose wrong options can be dismissed without knowing any football is not really a question, so those get rewritten or dropped rather than padded out. Anything that could not be confirmed was removed rather than guessed, which is why some sets are smaller than others. Every one of them carries a written explanation. Spot something wrong and tell us — corrections from players are how the bank stays accurate.

About the Sheffield Wednesday quiz
Sheffield Wednesday have the best name in English football and the most literal explanation for it: the club began in 1867 as the football section of The Wednesday Cricket Club, whose members played on their weekly half-day off. That makes them one of the oldest professional clubs anywhere.
The nickname came later and from geography — they moved to Owlerton in 1899, became the Owls, and an owl has sat on the badge ever since. Hillsborough has been home for over a century.
The honours are older than most supporters: four league titles in 1903, 1904, 1929 and 1930, and three FA Cups in 1896, 1907 and 1935. The most recent major trophy came in 1991, when a Second Division Wednesday beat Manchester United 1-0 in the League Cup final through John Sheridan.
Then 1993, a season of extraordinary cruelty — both domestic cup finals reached, both lost to Arsenal, the FA Cup only after a replay. Chris Waddle was Footballer of the Year that season, which tells you how good the side was and how little it got for it.
The Sheffield Wednesday set runs the full range — easy starters, a medium core, and hard questions a devoted fan has to think about.
