About the PSV quiz

PSV were founded in Eindhoven in 1913 as the sports club of the Philips electronics company, and still play at the Philips Stadion in the heart of the city. This free PSV quiz covers the whole story: the red-and-white stripes, the Eindhoven roots, and a reputation as one of the great talent factories in European football. If you know your PSV, this is your test.

The summit came in 1988, when Guus Hiddink's side completed a treble — the Eredivisie, the KNVB Cup and the European Cup, beating Benfica on penalties in Stuttgart after Hans van Breukelen's decisive save. That team was captained by Eric Gerets and included Ronald Koeman, who would later join Barcelona's Dream Team. PSV's eye for a player runs deep: weeks after that final, Romário arrived from Vasco da Gama in the summer of 1988 and tore the Eredivisie apart before Barcelona came calling in 1993, and the club has launched a string of forwards onto the biggest stages.

Expect questions on the 1988 treble, the managers, the Brazilians and Dutchmen who made their names in Eindhoven, and the club's European history. You'll be asked who saved the decisive penalty, which club PSV beat in the 1988 final, and where the club's name comes from. Difficulty climbs from easy openers about the founding and the stadium to genuinely hard deep cuts about specific finals, transfers and seasons.

Every question comes with a short explained answer, so even a miss teaches you the detail that makes it stick. Play the sample set below free in your browser, no sign-up needed. The full PSV quiz — plus daily challenges, leaderboards and multiplayer — is in the Ball IQ app.
