About the Celtic quiz
Celtic were founded in the East End of Glasgow in 1887 by an Irish-born Marist, Brother Walfrid, to raise money for the poor of the city's community — and played their first match, against Rangers, in 1888. This free Celtic quiz covers the whole story of the club from Parkhead: the green-and-white hoops, the roar of Celtic Park (the ground supporters call 'Paradise'), and a history running from Willie Maley through Jock Stein to the modern Bhoys. If you know your Celtic, this is your test.
No moment defines the club like Lisbon. In 1967, Jock Stein's side became the first British club to win the European Cup, beating Inter Milan 2-1 in the Portuguese capital with a team drawn almost entirely from within about 30 miles of Glasgow — the immortal Lisbon Lions. Stein's Celtic also won nine league titles in a row between 1966 and 1974, a Scottish record later matched but never beaten. The quiz travels from that golden age to Henrik Larsson's goal-laden years, Martin O'Neill's run to the 2003 UEFA Cup final in Seville, and Brendan Rodgers' unbeaten domestic treble of 2016-17.
Expect questions on the managers, the great European nights, the Old Firm derby with Rangers, and the cult heroes fans still sing about. You'll be asked who captained the Lisbon Lions, which Swedish striker became a Parkhead idol, and where that 1967 final was played. Difficulty climbs from easy openers about famous champions and the club's founding to genuinely hard deep cuts about specific finals, scorers and seasons — a proper test for the matchgoer and the stats obsessive alike.
Every question comes with a short explained answer, so even a miss teaches you the detail that makes it stick. Play the sample set below free in your browser, no sign-up needed. The full Celtic quiz — plus daily challenges, leaderboards and multiplayer — is in the Ball IQ app.
