How the Norwich City quiz is checked

Every question above was written by hand and verified before it went live.

Every Norwich City question here was checked twice before publication — once against the claim the question makes, and once against the wrong answers offered beside it. A question whose wrong options can be dismissed without knowing any football is not really a question, so those get rewritten or dropped rather than padded out. Anything that could not be confirmed was removed rather than guessed, which is why some sets are smaller than others. Every one of them carries a written explanation. Spot something wrong and tell us — corrections from players are how the bank stays accurate.

Norwich City quiz — FAQ

Why are Norwich City called the Canaries?
Norwich was a centre of canary breeding, introduced by Flemish weavers who settled in the city. The club adopted yellow and green in 1907 to match, and both the nickname and the kit have stayed ever since.
What is Norwich City's greatest achievement?
Finishing third in the inaugural Premier League season of 1992-93, their highest ever league placing, and then beating Bayern Munich at the Olympiastadion in the UEFA Cup — the first English club to win there.
Has Norwich City won a major trophy?
Yes, the League Cup twice: in 1962 and again in 1985, when Ken Brown's side beat Sunderland at Wembley. Norwich were relegated from the top flight in that same 1985 season.
Who is Delia Smith at Norwich City?
The television cook, who with her husband became the club's majority shareholder. Her half-time appeal to the Carrow Road crowd in 2005 — "Let's be 'avin' you!" — is one of the most replayed moments in English football.
About the Norwich City quiz

Norwich City are the Canaries, and the name is older than the kit: the city was a centre of canary breeding brought over by Flemish weavers, and the club changed to yellow and green in 1907 to match. Carrow Road has been home since 1935.

The peak was 1992-93. Norwich led the inaugural Premier League for much of the season and finished third, their highest ever placing, which took them into the UEFA Cup. There they beat Bayern Munich at the Olympiastadion — the first English club ever to win on that ground.

Two League Cups sit in the cabinet, from 1962 and 1985, and the second came in a season that ended in relegation, which is very Norwich. So is Delia Smith, majority shareholder and the author of the most replayed half-time appeal in English football.

Since then the club has become the definitive yo-yo side, going up and coming down with a regularity that borders on the ceremonial — and producing, in Teemu Pukki and Grant Holt, two of the most loved strikers outside the top six.

The Norwich City set runs the full range — easy starters, a medium core, and hard questions a devoted fan has to think about.
