About the Trabzonspor quiz
Trabzonspor were founded in 1967 on the Black Sea coast, and within a decade they had done something no club had managed before them. This free Trabzonspor quiz covers the whole story: the burgundy and blue, the Karadeniz Fırtınası — the Black Sea Storm — and a city that treats the club as its answer to Istanbul. If you know your Trabzonspor, this is your test.
In 1975-76, Trabzonspor became the first club from outside Istanbul to win the Turkish league, ending a monopoly that had held since the league began and turning a provincial side into a national cause. It was no fluke: four more titles followed by 1981, and a sixth in 1983-84. Then came the long wait — the seventh arrived in 2021-22 under Abdullah Avcı, 38 years after the sixth. The club's greatest servant spans the whole arc: Şenol Güneş kept goal for the champions of the 1970s and 80s, later managed the club, and took Turkey to third place at the 2002 World Cup. The stadium complex is named after him, though the ground carries a sponsor's name on match days.
Expect questions on the 1976 breakthrough, the titles Şenol Güneş won in goal, the Georgians and Turks who made their names in Trabzon, and the rivalry with Fenerbahçe. You'll be asked which club first broke Istanbul's grip on the title, who the stadium complex is named after, and what the club's colours are. Difficulty climbs from easy openers about the city and the nickname to genuinely hard deep cuts about specific seasons, scorers and squads.
Every question comes with a short explained answer, so even a miss teaches you the detail that makes it stick. Play the sample set below free in your browser, no sign-up needed. The full Trabzonspor quiz — plus daily challenges, leaderboards and multiplayer — is in the Ball IQ app.
