About the Wrexham quiz
Wrexham were founded in 1864, which makes them the oldest club in Wales and one of the oldest anywhere in the world. The Racecourse Ground has been home since the beginning and is recognised as the world's oldest international stadium still hosting international football.
For most of that history they were a lower-league club with one extraordinary day: 4 January 1992, when a Wrexham side that had finished bottom of the entire Football League the previous season beat the reigning champions Arsenal 2-1 in the FA Cup third round, Mickey Thomas curling in a free-kick at 37.
Then in 2021 Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club from its own supporters' trust, and the story changed entirely. Welcome to Wrexham turned a National League side into a globally known one, and the football followed: promotion as champions in 2023 ended a 15-year exile from the Football League, with more to come.
The deeper history is Welsh, though the league is English. Wrexham have won the Welsh Cup a record 23 times, and that competition once carried them into Europe — as far as a Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final in 1976.
