Parma quiz — FAQ

Have Parma ever won Serie A?
No. Their best league finish is second, in 1996-97 under Carlo Ancelotti. The trophy cabinet is European and domestic-cup instead: two UEFA Cups (1995 and 1999), the 1993 Cup Winners' Cup and three Coppa Italias.
Why did Parma restart in Serie D?
The club went bankrupt in 2015 and was refounded, which meant re-entering the game in Serie D, Italy's fourth tier. Three promotions in three years — under Luigi Apolloni and then Roberto D'Aversa — took them back to Serie A by 2018.
Is the Parma quiz free to play?
Yes — the sample questions are free in your browser with no sign-up, and the full Parma question bank is in the Ball IQ app along with daily challenges, leaderboards and multiplayer.
How hard is the Parma quiz?
It runs from easy (which trophy have Parma never won?) to hard (who scored in both legs of the 1995 UEFA Cup final?). Casual fans and Tardini regulars both get a proper test.
About the Parma quiz

Parma play at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, their home since 1923, in the Emilia-Romagna city famous for its ham and its cheese — and for a decade in the 1990s they were one of the best teams in Europe. This free Parma quiz covers the whole arc: the Nevio Scala sides that won the club's first major trophies, the Parmalat money that funded them, the 2003 accounting scandal and the 2015 bankruptcy that sent the Crociati all the way down to Serie D, and the three straight promotions that brought them back to Serie A.

The trophies came in a rush. Scala, in charge from 1989 to 1996, won the 1992 Coppa Italia and then the 1993 European Cup Winners' Cup, beating Royal Antwerp 3-1 in the final at Wembley — and later that year Parma took the European Super Cup, facing AC Milan after holders Marseille were barred from taking part. The 1995 UEFA Cup was an all-Italian final against Juventus, settled by Dino Baggio scoring in both legs. Alberto Malesani then delivered a UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia double in his first season, 1999, Marseille beaten 3-0 in the final with Hernán Crespo, Enrico Chiesa and full-back Paolo Vanoli among the scorers. The one prize that never came was the league: Carlo Ancelotti's 1996-97 side finished second, still the best placing in Parma's history.

The squads were extraordinary. Gianluigi Buffon came through the youth system and made his Serie A debut in November 1995, aged 17, in a goalless draw with AC Milan; Fabio Cannavaro arrived from Napoli that same year and stayed seven seasons; Lilian Thuram came from Monaco in 1996. Add Faustino Asprilla — whose finish ended AC Milan's record unbeaten league run in March 1993 before he left for Newcastle United — Crespo, signed from River Plate and sold to Lazio in 2000 for what was then a world-record fee, Gianfranco Zola's mid-season move to Chelsea in 1996, a season of Hristo Stoichkov between two spells at Barcelona, and Hidetoshi Nakata, part of the 2002 Coppa Italia-winning squad. Arrigo Sacchi had managed here in the mid-1980s before Silvio Berlusconi took him to Milan. Then Parmalat collapsed, and in 2015 so did the club: refounded in Serie D with Scala as president, Serie D champions under former defender Luigi Apolloni, and back-to-back promotions under Roberto D'Aversa in 2017 and 2018 — captain Alessandro Lucarelli, who had stayed through the bankruptcy, wearing the armband for all three.

Every question comes with a short explained answer, so even a miss teaches you the detail that makes it stick — which company bankrolled the golden era, or where the 1993 final was played.
