What the Torino quiz covers

Every question is written and checked by football fans — soccer, if you're reading this in the US — across the topics that decide a real Torino expert:

This is one set from a bank of thousands of questions spanning 72 clubs, every major league and eight decades of football.

How the Torino quiz is checked

Every question above was written by hand and verified before it went live.

All 42 Torino questions were checked twice before publication — once against the claim the question makes, and once against the wrong answers offered beside it. A question whose wrong options can be dismissed without knowing any football is not really a question, so those get rewritten or dropped rather than padded out. Anything that could not be confirmed was removed rather than guessed, which is why some sets are smaller than others. Every one of them carries a written explanation. Spot something wrong and tell us — corrections from players are how the bank stays accurate.

About the Torino quiz

Torino were founded in 1906 by dissidents who split from Juventus, and the maroon shirts made them the granata — Il Toro, the bull, on the crest. This free Torino quiz covers the whole story: the Derby della Mole against the old enemy, the fortress Filadelfia, and the greatest and most tragic team in Italian history. If you know your Toro, this is your test.

Il Grande Torino won five consecutive Serie A titles in the 1940s, built by president Ferruccio Novo and captained by Valentino Mazzola, the attacking number 10 who defined an era — in one 1947 international, Italy's team was almost entirely Torino players. Then, on 4 May 1949, the plane carrying the entire squad crashed into the Superga hillside above Turin. Every player died, four games from another title. Superga is not just history — it is the club's soul, honoured every year since.

There was life after: the 1975-76 Scudetto under Gigi Radice, sealed in a title race with Juventus; the 1993 Coppa Italia; and the 1992 UEFA Cup final, reached by knocking out Real Madrid in the semi-finals before losing to Ajax on away goals. You'll be asked who captained the Grande Torino, what happened at Superga, and which Scottish forward arrived in 1961 for a British-record fee before becoming a Manchester United legend. Difficulty climbs from easy openers to genuinely hard deep cuts.

Every question comes with a short explained answer, so even a miss teaches you the detail that makes it stick. Play the sample set below free in your browser, no sign-up needed. The full Torino quiz — plus daily challenges, leaderboards and multiplayer — is in the Ball IQ app.
