How to play
1. Guess a footballer's surname. Legends or current stars, players or managers — type any surname of the right length and hit enter.
2. Read the colours. Green: right letter, right spot. Yellow: in the name, different spot. Grey: not in the name at all.
3. Solve it in six. Surnames vary in length — the grid shows how many letters today's player has. You get six guesses.
4. Come back tomorrow. One Footle per day, the same player for everyone. Share your emoji grid and protect your streak.
Wordle, but make it football
Footle is Ball IQ's daily football word game — Wordle, but the answer is always a footballer. Every day there is one player or manager to find, the same for everyone, and six guesses to find them. The tiles tell you how close you are: green for a letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that is in the surname but somewhere else, grey for a miss. Unlike classic Wordle, the surnames are not locked to five letters — SALAH is a very different puzzle from LEWANDOWSKI — so the size of the grid is itself a clue.
