How the Burnley quiz is checked
Every question above was written by hand and verified before it went live.
All 30 Burnley questions were checked twice before publication — once against the claim the question makes, and once against the wrong answers offered beside it. A question whose wrong options can be dismissed without knowing any football is not really a question, so those get rewritten or dropped rather than padded out. Anything that could not be confirmed was removed rather than guessed, which is why some sets are smaller than others. Every one of them carries a written explanation. Spot something wrong and tell us — corrections from players are how the bank stays accurate.

About the Burnley quiz
Burnley were founded in 1882 and were one of the twelve founding members of the Football League in 1888. This free Burnley quiz covers the whole story: the claret and blue adopted in 1910 in imitation of the then-dominant Aston Villa, Turf Moor, two League Championships, and a modern era of promotions, European nights and a record-breaking Championship title. If you know your Clarets, this is your test.
The trophies came early. Tommy Boyle captained Burnley to the 1914 FA Cup — a 1-0 win over Liverpool, in the first final attended by a reigning monarch, King George V presenting the trophy — and then to a first League Championship in 1920-21. A second title followed under Harry Potts in 1959-60, clinched with a final-day win at Maine Road, and the champions entered the European Cup in 1960-61. Jimmy Adamson was named FWA Footballer of the Year in 1962, George Beel remains the club's record league goalscorer, and Scottish winger Willie Morgan was sold to Manchester United in 1968.
Expect questions on the golden eras and the modern climbs: Wade Elliott's winner against Sheffield United in the 2009 play-off final, Robbie Blake's strike to beat reigning champions Manchester United at Turf Moor, the Sean Dyche side that finished 7th in 2017-18 to reach the Europa League, and Vincent Kompany's 101-point Championship title in 2022-23. You'll be asked which manager Dyche replaced, who arrived from Leeds for a record fee, and where Danny Ings went on a free. Difficulty climbs from easy openers about Turf Moor and the nickname to genuinely hard deep cuts about specific finals, transfers and seasons.
Every question comes with a short explained answer, so even a miss teaches you the detail that makes it stick. Play the sample set below free in your browser, no sign-up needed. The full Burnley quiz — plus daily challenges, leaderboards and multiplayer — is in the Ball IQ app.
