How the Portsmouth quiz is checked
Every question above was written by hand and verified before it went live.
Every Portsmouth question here was checked twice before publication — once against the claim the question makes, and once against the wrong answers offered beside it. A question whose wrong options can be dismissed without knowing any football is not really a question, so those get rewritten or dropped rather than padded out. Anything that could not be confirmed was removed rather than guessed, which is why some sets are smaller than others. Every one of them carries a written explanation. Spot something wrong and tell us — corrections from players are how the bank stays accurate.

About the Portsmouth quiz
Portsmouth are Pompey, a name the city wore before the club did, and Fratton Park has been home since 1899 — one of the oldest grounds still in continuous use in English football.
The peak came either side of the club's 50th anniversary: back-to-back First Division titles in 1949 and 1950, still the only league championships in Portsmouth's history. Nearly six decades later came the other great day, Harry Redknapp's side beating Cardiff City 1-0 at Wembley in 2008 through a Nwankwo Kanu goal.
What followed is the part that makes Pompey a genuinely unusual football story. In 2010 they became the first Premier League club to enter administration, took a nine-point deduction, reached the FA Cup final anyway and were relegated. Successive falls took them to the fourth tier by 2013.
That is when the supporters bought the club. The Pompey Supporters' Trust takeover made Portsmouth the largest fan-owned club in England at the time, and the recovery since has been built from there. Few clubs have travelled quite so far in both directions inside a single decade.
The Portsmouth set runs the full range — easy starters, a medium core, and hard questions a devoted fan has to think about.
