What the Hajduk Split quiz covers

Every question is written and checked by football fans — soccer, if you're reading this in the US — across the topics that decide a real Hajduk Split expert:

This is one set from a bank of thousands of questions spanning 72 clubs, every major league and eight decades of football.

How the Hajduk Split quiz is checked

Every question above was written by hand and verified before it went live.

All 15 Hajduk Split questions were checked twice before publication — once against the claim the question makes, and once against the wrong answers offered beside it. A question whose wrong options can be dismissed without knowing any football is not really a question, so those get rewritten or dropped rather than padded out. Anything that could not be confirmed was removed rather than guessed, which is why some sets are smaller than others. Every one of them carries a written explanation. Spot something wrong and tell us — corrections from players are how the bank stays accurate.

About the Hajduk Split quiz

Hajduk Split were founded on 13 February 1911 by four students from Split who were studying in Prague, and named for the hajduks — the outlaws who fought Ottoman rule. This free Hajduk Split quiz covers the whole story of the Bili: Poljud, Torcida, the Eternal Derby with Dinamo Zagreb, and a history unlike any other club's in Europe.

That history includes the strangest rebirth in football. With Split occupied and the Adriatic islands sheltering the resistance, Hajduk were re-formed on the island of Vis on 7 May 1944, in front of Partisan leader Josip Broz Tito and British officers — among them Randolph Churchill, son of the wartime prime minister. The club became the official football team of the Yugoslav resistance, and that September played the British Army in Bari before a crowd of some 40,000, losing 9-2. In 1945 they toured Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Malta, playing more than 90 matches.

In peacetime Hajduk became one of the "Big Four" of Yugoslav football alongside Dinamo Zagreb, Partizan and Red Star Belgrade, winning the 1950 championship without losing a match. Europe brought two semi-finals — the 1973 Cup Winners' Cup and the 1984 UEFA Cup, that run taking in Metz, Stuttgart, Torino, Dnipro and Universitatea Craiova. Torcida, formed on 28 October 1950, is the oldest organised supporters' group in Europe and still fills Poljud's north stand.

Expect questions on Vis and the war years, the club's record-breakers, the players who left for bigger leagues, and Torcida itself. Every answer is explained, so you finish knowing why.
