About the Anderlecht quiz

RSC Anderlecht were founded in 1908 in the Brussels borough that gives them their name, and the purple and white have been Belgian football's defining colours ever since. This free Anderlecht quiz covers the whole story: the Brussels roots, the trophy-laden decades, and a run of European nights that made a Belgian club genuinely feared on the continent. If you know your Anderlecht, this is your test.

Anderlecht's European golden age arrived in the 1970s and 80s. They won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1976 and again in 1978, and lifted the UEFA Cup in 1983 — a haul few clubs outside the traditional giants can match. Paul Van Himst, named Belgium's footballer of the twentieth century, won all four of his Golden Shoes at Anderlecht across sixteen years at the club, while the Dutch winger Rob Rensenbrink scored in both of those Cup Winners' Cup final victories.

Expect questions on the European finals, the managers, the great Brussels sides and the players who defined them. You'll be asked which trophy Anderlecht won twice in the 1970s, who Belgium's footballer of the century was, and what the club's colours are. Difficulty climbs from easy openers about the founding and the purple shirt to genuinely hard deep cuts about specific finals, scorers and seasons.

Every question comes with a short explained answer, so even a miss teaches you the detail that makes it stick. Play the sample set below free in your browser, no sign-up needed. The full Anderlecht quiz — plus daily challenges, leaderboards and multiplayer — is in the Ball IQ app.
