Copenhagen, 17 May 2000: goalless with Arsenal after extra time, then a 4-1 shoot-out win sealed by Gheorghe Popescu's penalty — the first major European trophy ever won by a Turkish club, capping a treble season under Fatih Terim. Three months later in Monaco, Mário Jardel scored twice, the second a golden goal, to beat Champions League winners Real Madrid 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup. Rewind to November 1993 and the 'Welcome to Hell' banners that greeted Manchester United at the airport, before a 0-0 draw at the Ali Sami Yen put Galatasaray through on away goals and Eric Cantona saw red in the chaos. The modern era keeps pace: Victor Osimhen's two goals in the 3-0 Turkish Cup final win over Trabzonspor that set up the 2024-25 double, and the 4-2 defeat of Antalyaspor on 9 May 2026 that clinched a record-extending 26th league title.
