The Coppa Italia is Italian football's premier knockout cup, first contested in 1922 and run almost every season since 1935. Over that span it has crowned clubs from every corner of the peninsula, from tiny Ligurian side Vado, who won the very first edition, to the Serie A giants who dominate the modern honours list.

Juventus stand alone at the top with 15 triumphs, followed by Inter Milan and Roma. But the cup has always kept room for surprises: Napoli lifted it in 1962 while still a Serie B side, Vicenza stunned the country in 1997, and in 2025 Bologna ended a 51-year wait for a major trophy. The competition's format has shifted over the decades too — from a single final, to two-legged home-and-away deciders, to a final round-robin group in the late 1960s, before settling back into today's one-off showpiece.
