About the Blackburn Rovers quiz
Blackburn Rovers have been at Ewood Park since 1890, and the blue and white halved shirt goes back to their Victorian sides. They won the FA Cup in three consecutive seasons — 1884, 1885 and 1886 — a feat only Wanderers had managed before them, beating the Glasgow amateurs Queen's Park in the first two. William Townley scored the first hat-trick in an FA Cup final in the 6-1 win of 1890, and the sixth and last cup came in 1928 against Huddersfield Town.
Two league titles followed in 1911-12 and 1913-14, both captained by Bob Crompton, whose England caps stood as a record for 38 years until Billy Wright passed him. Ted Harper's 43 league goals in 1925-26 remain the club record. Then came the long years down: relegated in 1966, into the third tier by 1971, back up as champions in 1974-75, with Simon Garner and Derek Fazackerley playing hundreds of games almost entirely outside the top flight.
Jack Walker changed all of it. A local man who had built Walkersteel into Britain's largest steel stockholder and sold it to British Steel, he funded a rebuild of Ewood Park costing around £20m and backed Kenny Dalglish's team: promotion through the play-offs in 1992, Alan Shearer from Southampton for a British record, Chris Sutton from Norwich to form the SAS partnership, and the 1994-95 title won on 89 points while Manchester United finished a point behind.
What came after is its own story — the 2002 League Cup against Tottenham under Graeme Souness, Damien Duff sold to Chelsea in Abramovich's first summer, Brad Friedel scoring a 90th-minute equaliser at The Valley, Paul Ince arriving as the first black British manager in the Premier League, and relegation in 2012 under the Rao family's ownership.
