Answers — round 1
  1. 1884, 1885 and 1886 — Only Wanderers, in the 1870s, had won three FA Cups in a row before Rovers did it in 1884, 1885 and 1886 — and no club has managed it since.
  2. Queen's Park — Queen's Park, the Glasgow amateurs, reached both finals at Kennington Oval and lost both — 2-1 in 1884 and 2-0 a year later.
  3. Sheffield Wednesday — Wednesday were swept aside by three goals from William Townley — the first hat-trick ever scored in an FA Cup final.
  4. Huddersfield Town — Jack Roscamp scored twice and Tommy McLean once in a 3-1 win over Huddersfield — the last major trophy Rovers would win for 67 years.

  1. Dave Whelan — Whelan fractured his leg in a challenge with Wolves' Norman Deeley, and with no substitutes allowed Rovers had to play out the final a man short.
  2. 26 years — Rovers went down in 1966 and did not play top-flight football again until the inaugural Premier League season of 1992-93.
  3. The Full Members' Cup — Colin Hendry volleyed the winner five minutes from time in the Full Members' Cup, a competition invented for First and Second Division clubs after English sides were banned from Europe.
