- 1907 — The club was formed on 17 October 1907 by students of Bergamo's Liceo Classico Paolo Sarpi; a 1920 merger with fellow Bergamo side Bergamasca added the 'Bergamasca' to the name that survives today as Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio.
- Christian Vieri — Vieri joined Atalanta from Venezia in 1995, moved to Juventus in July 1996 and won the Scudetto there before leaving for Atletico Madrid.

- Dejan Kulusevski — Sweden-raised Kulusevski was developed by Atalanta, broke through on loan at Parma, and was sold to Juventus mid-season while staying at Parma until June.
- Roberto Donadoni — Born in Cisano Bergamasco, Donadoni debuted for Atalanta in 1982 and made 96 league appearances before Milan signed him — a year before Arrigo Sacchi arrived to build his great side.
- Nerazzurri — Nerazzurri simply means 'the black-and-blues'. Atalanta are also called the Orobici, after the ancient Orobii people of the Bergamo hills.
- The Goddess — The club takes its name from Atalanta, the fleet-footed huntress of Greek myth, whose profile appears on the crest — Bergamo fans give her a rank above mortal.
- Torino — Angelo Domenghini scored a hat-trick at San Siro. The celebrations were muted — Bergamo-born Pope John XXIII died the following day.
- Teun Koopmeiners — Koopmeiners had arrived from AZ in 2021 and left for a guaranteed fee of around €51m plus bonuses — one of the biggest sales in Atalanta's history.

- Genoa — Gasperini left Genoa, where he was in his second spell from 2013 to 2016, to take charge of an Atalanta side that had just finished 13th.
- Stephen Pagliuca — Pagliuca, a Bain Capital co-chairman and Boston Celtics co-owner, led the group that took 55%; the Percassi family kept 45% and stayed the largest single shareholder, with Pagliuca named co-chairman.

- KV Mechelen — Mechelen won both legs 2-1 and then beat Ajax in the final. Atalanta were in the competition as Coppa Italia runners-up, because winners Napoli had done the double and entered the European Cup.
- Stefano Colantuono — Colantuono had more than one spell in Bergamo and won promotion as champions in each of those seasons — the second time at the first attempt after relegation.
