Answers — round 1
  1. West Bromwich Strollers — The factory men who founded the club called themselves the Strollers. The 'Albion' suffix arrived in 1880, and Albion were the first English club to take it.
  2. 1900 — The first match at the new ground was a 1-1 draw in September 1900, and Albion have never moved since.
  3. Everton — Astle struck three minutes into extra time to settle it 1-0 against Everton, completing a run in which he had scored in every round of the competition.
  4. The Three Degrees — The trio were named after the American vocal group, and were among the first black players to line up together in a First Division side.
  5. Real Madrid — Real Madrid paid a club-record fee in pesetas for the winger in July 1979, and he scored twice on his debut.
  6. Aston Villa — A one-sided Midlands derby gave Albion their second FA Cup, after the 1888 victory over Preston North End.

  3. Willie Johnston — Johnston tested positive after Scotland's defeat by Peru in Argentina, was banned from international football, and soon left The Hawthorns for Vancouver.
  4. Old Trafford — It was 3-3 at half-time at Old Trafford before Albion pulled away; Len Cantello's volley was voted goal of the season.
  5. Dunfermline Athletic — A goalless draw in Scotland was followed by a 1-0 Dunfermline win at The Hawthorns, and the Scots went on to reach the semi-finals.
  6. Hayes — Regis was playing for Hayes when Albion paid an initial £5,000, with a further sum due after 20 appearances — one of the great bargains of the era.
