Answers — round 1
  1. Arsenal — Graham won promotion to the Second Division with Millwall in 1984-85, then was appointed Arsenal manager in May 1986 and stayed almost nine years. His successor took Millwall into the top flight two years later.
  2. 1988-89 — In 1988-89, their first top-flight season, Millwall went top on 1 October 1988. Tenth place was the lowest position they held all season.
  3. Barry Kitchener — Barry Kitchener played for Millwall from 1966 to 1982 and holds the club appearance record. The Barry Kitchener Stand honours him.
  4. Rangers — Hurlock joined Rangers for £375,000 and won the Premier Division and League Cup in his one season at Ibrox. He returned to Millwall in 1994.
  5. Republic of Ireland manager — McCarthy succeeded Jack Charlton as Republic of Ireland manager. Millwall had led Division One that season but were relegated in May.
  6. J.T. Morton — J.T. Morton, an Aberdeen firm, opened its first English cannery at Millwall dock and drew many workers from Dundee. Their works team became Millwall Rovers.
  7. Middlesbrough — Rioch had led his previous club to two straight promotions before his dismissal in March 1990. He took Millwall to the 1990-91 play-offs and left in 1992.
  8. West Ham United — Cripps played in West Ham's 1959 FA Youth Cup final team alongside Bobby Moore, then became a Millwall hero. Arry's Bar at The Den is named after him.
  9. John Smith — John Smith, then leader of the Labour Party, opened the ground. It was the first new all-seater stadium completed in England after the Taylor Report.

Answers — round 2
  1. Aston Villa — Graham Taylor's side made Cascarino their record signing in March 1990. He moved on to Celtic in 1991 and then to Chelsea.
  2. Sunderland — Sunderland won the semi 2-1 at Huddersfield and went on to lift the Cup. Dave Mangnall scored Millwall's goal.
  3. Gillingham — Cascarino had scored 110 goals for Gillingham. At Millwall he formed one of the most prolific strike partnerships in the club's history.
  4. New Cross — The original Den, on Cold Blow Lane in New Cross, was designed by Archibald Leitch. Millwall played there for 83 years before moving to the new Den in 1993.
  5. Sporting CP — Sporting CP, coached by Bobby Robson, won the opening game 2-1. Millwall had played at the old Den for 83 years.
  6. John Docherty — John Docherty, a Glaswegian, won the title in his second season in charge, and Millwall reached the First Division for the first time.
