  1. 1903 — The club was founded in Porto Alegre in September 1903; city rivals Internacional followed six years later, in 1909.
  2. Cândido Dias da Silva — Cândido Dias da Silva is honoured as the club's founder. Miller, Cox and Nobiling were pioneers of the game in São Paulo and Rio, not in Porto Alegre.
  3. Grêmio 10-0 Internacional — 10-0 on 18 July 1909, still the heaviest win the derby has ever produced. Internacional, founded that April, had asked Grêmio to be their first opponents.
