Answers — round 1
  1. 1945 — Monterrey was founded on 28 June 1945 by a group of local businessmen. They withdrew after one season, came back in the Segunda División in 1952 and won promotion for good in 1960.
  2. The team bus caught fire on a road trip — In September 1945 the team bus caught fire at San Juan de los Lagos on the way to a match. Several players were badly hurt and Costa Rican Enrique Lizano later died. The club finished bottom and withdrew in 1946.
  3. Tampico Madero — Coached by Francisco Avilán, Monterrey knocked out Atlante and Guadalajara, then beat Tampico Madero 3-2 on aggregate in the final.
  4. Francisco Javier Cruz — 'El Abuelo' Cruz, who scored the extra-time winner in the 1986 final, set up Sergio Pérez's goal against Puebla on 9 May 1999, the day he retired.
  5. Estadio Tecnológico — Monterrey played at the Estadio Tecnológico from 1950 to 2015, apart from a 1973-80 spell at the Estadio Universitario. Demolition of the old ground began in July 2017.

Answers — round 2
  1. Diego Alonso — Uruguayan Diego Alonso, appointed in 2018, beat Tigres in the 2019 final for the club's fourth CONCACAF title. He was dismissed in autumn 2019.
  2. América — The final finished 3-3 on aggregate, and Monterrey won the shoot-out 4-2 for their fifth league title.
  3. Antonio Mohamed — 'El Turco' Mohamed, who had coached the club from 2015 to 2018 and played for them in 1998-2000, was reappointed in October 2019 and won the title that December.
  4. Roberto Firmino — Funes Mori cancelled out Naby Keïta's opener, but Firmino scored in the 91st minute to win it 2-1 for Liverpool in Qatar.
  5. Chelsea — Mata, Torres and an own goal put Chelsea 3-0 up before de Nigris replied. Monterrey then beat Al Ahly 2-0 to finish third.
  6. Kashiwa Reysol — Suazo equalised in a 1-1 draw in Toyota, but Kashiwa Reysol won the shoot-out 4-3. Monterrey then beat Espérance 3-2 to finish fifth.
  7. Cruz Azul — Monterrey came from 3-1 down to win the first leg 4-3 at the Tecnológico, then won 2-1 at the Estadio Azul.
  8. Humberto Suazo — After losing the first leg 3-2, Monterrey won 3-0 at the Tecnológico. Suazo scored twice and Basanta once for a 5-3 aggregate win.
  9. Real Salt Lake — After a 2-2 first leg at the Tecnológico, Humberto Suazo's goal won the second leg 1-0 in Utah for a 3-2 aggregate win.

  1. Humberto Suazo — Suazo and Santos Laguna's Oribe Peralta both scored 7. Suazo won the award because he scored more goals in the two-legged final.
  2. Colo-Colo — Suazo had won three straight league titles with Colo-Colo before Monterrey paid a reported $5 million for him in 2007.
  3. Rogelio Funes Mori — Funes Mori scored 160 goals in all competitions between 2015 and 2023, passing Suazo's 121.
  4. Javier Aguirre — 'El Vasco' Aguirre took over before the Clausura 2021. An early goal decided the final and gave the club its fifth CONCACAF title.
