Every Eredivisie Champion (1956-57 to 2024-25)

70 entries · verified 2026-07-20 · free · from the Ball IQ football team

The Eredivisie has crowned a champion of Dutch football every season since 1956-57, when the country's regional leagues were folded into a single national professional division. Ajax lifted that inaugural title, setting the tone for nearly seven decades in which one of three clubs would claim the trophy far more often than not.

Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord form the league's traditional 'big three', and between them they have won the overwhelming majority of Eredivisie titles. Only a handful of outsiders have broken through: DOS, Sparta and DWS in the early years, and AZ (as AZ '67) and Twente in the modern era. That concentration of success makes the Dutch title race one of European football's most predictable at the top and most fiercely contested just beneath it.

The table below lists every Eredivisie champion and runner-up from the first 1956-57 season to the most recent 2024-25 campaign, in which PSV edged Ajax to retain their crown. The 2019-20 season is included but was declared void with no champion awarded after play was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Every Eredivisie Champion (1956-57 to 2024-25) — FAQ

Which club has won the most Eredivisie titles?
Ajax has won the most Eredivisie titles, with well over 30 championships since the league began in 1956-57 — comfortably ahead of PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord, the other two members of Dutch football's 'big three'.
Who won the Eredivisie in 2024-25?
PSV Eindhoven won the 2024-25 Eredivisie, finishing ahead of Ajax to retain the title they had also won in 2023-24.
Which clubs have won the Eredivisie besides Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord?
Only five other clubs have been champions: DOS (1957-58), Sparta Rotterdam (1958-59), DWS (1963-64), AZ — as AZ '67 in 1980-81 and again in 2008-09 — and Twente (2009-10).
Why is there no Eredivisie champion for 2019-20?
The 2019-20 season was ended early and declared void because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The KNVB decided not to award the title, so no champion was crowned that year, even though Ajax led on goal difference when play stopped.
