About the Racing Club quiz
In November 1967 Racing Club were champions of the world, and this free Racing quiz is built around how they got there. Nacional of Montevideo beaten in a Copa Libertadores final that needed a third match in Santiago. Then Celtic, the reigning European champions, taken to a play-off at the Estadio Centenario — the night Argentine football remembers as the Battle of Montevideo, settled by one Juan Carlos Cárdenas strike from distance. Racing were the first Argentine club to win the Intercontinental Cup; Estudiantes followed them a year later against Manchester United.
There is far more to be tested on than 1967. The seven championships in a row from 1913 to 1919 that turned Racing into La Academia, the finishing school of Argentine football. Guillermo Stábile's run of 1949, 1950 and 1951 — the first three-in-a-row by any Argentine professional club. El Cilindro, inaugurated in 1950 as the Estadio Presidente Perón and named after the drum shape that gave it its nickname, a few hundred metres from Independiente across Avenida Mitre. And then the long punishment: relegation in 1983, a court declaring the club bankrupt in 1999, and the folklore of seven black cats buried under the ground in 1967, six of them eventually dug up.
